Are you curious about dropping deeper into the wisdom of your body and psyche?
PSYCHOTHERAPY MAY BE A TRANSFORMATIVE RESOURCE FOR YOU
Through psychotherapy we offer time and space for you to do the in-depth work of coming into contact with the deeper layers of yourself. Sometimes it feels like an unravelling but in fact it is a gentle unfolding of your whole, authentic being.
Together we explore the opportunity to acknowledge, name and feel all the parts of yourself, enabling your whole self to be witnessed in a safe and compassionate holding.
In time, the feelings and habits that dominate your everyday life, sabotage your wellbeing and compromise your relationships are met and identified. Allowing and befriending all your parts and experiences frees up space for your authentic self to emerge.
The enquiry is not an intellectual process but one that emerges from somatic felt sense and alchemises in the field of relationship.
So what is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is an invitation to explore the ways in which we move through life, acknowledging that we see through a lens of conditioning that colours the way we relate to ourselves, one another and the world.
Often, we are following young patterns that originated as an intelligent response to life, keeping us safe and cultivating relational connections needed for our survival.
As we become adult, these patterns may no longer serve us and yet we have become blind to their existence. There may be parts of ourselves rejected or disallowed that hold the key to the expression of who we really are.
PSYCHOTHERAPY OFFERS YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE YOUR WHOLE SELF.
Entering into the therapeutic relationship allows compassionate and courageous co-enquiry to invite the whole self to emerge, witnessing and acknowledging what is, so that the wisdom and transformation within the mind-body field has space to emerge.
How your journey might unfold:
-
PSYCHE
We will hold space to explore & reflect on our beliefs around identity, attachment, the role of our parts and the learnt structures of our relational behaviour & responses.
-
BODY
Remembering how to orient to sensation in the body for compassionate enquiry, you’ll learn tools for self regulation and gain access to the wisdom of your body.
-
IMAGINAL
Discovering the wisdom & support accessible within the unseen, you may start to recover your dreams & the healing potential of the imaginal world.

Sonja Lockyer is a senior student of Core Process Psychotherapy, with 20 years of yoga & bodywork experience.
In 2005 she began a professional career in yoga, breath & meditation practices, gravitating towards working with trauma in the body & systems of self regulation which led her to bodywork and biodynamic cranio sacral therapy. She knows the importance of attending to both mind and body if we are to effectively and safely process our trauma history.
Sonja chose studies in CPP Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute in 2021 because of the profound depth, integrity & compassion of the training.
CPP is a mindful practice guided by the material that arises within the shared field. Led by process rather than agenda, together client and therapist explore what is here in the moment and what might be ready to arise. Sonja is particularly inspired by pre & perinatal process, childhood developmental attachment and the parts work of Internal Family Systems.
Sonja is registered with UKCP and ACPP.
An initial consultation with Sonja is a totally confidential setting, either in person or online, that lasts for approximately 30 minutes and may be followed by 6 weeks or more of exploratory psychotherapy sessions lasting 60 minutes.

You’ll start with 6 sessions but you are likely to want more. I’d suggest 12 sessions as a minimum but for some it becomes a weekly support that is transformational and continues for years.

Yes. Whatever you’re bringing to the therapeutic space it is likely that experiences from your childhood had an impact - both good & bad. If there is something causing suffering in your adult life, we can explore of the roots back to the beginning and shine a light on where the beliefs and conditioning began.
-
The right time for you will be when you are ready to bring abpout change in your life and you have enough resources of time and finances to support you.
It may be that you need to rest more and take care of yourself as you begin the sessions so that is worth considering.
-
Psychotherapy may alleviate symptoms such as relationship conflict, anxiety & stress, depression, bereavement, anger, unresolved childhood trauma and unhelpful repeating behavioural patterns.
The symptoms of suffering help us to uncover and attend to the core of the issue, allowing symptoms to ease.
CPP is a reflective practice that allows the layers to peel away so that we can become clear in recognising our part and our needs.
This way we open to the possibility of becoming more conscious in our choices and responses.
-
CPP is different in that it doesn’t promise to fix you since the practice is built on the understanding that you are inherently whole. Our time together is simply removing the layers that give the illusion of broken.
Another difference may be the relationship between client and therapist is equal - not a hierarchal done & done to model of therapy.
CPP is a contemplative, relational practice that offers an intention for safe and compassionate inquiry.
It is in the safety of the therapeutic relationship and the present moment awareness that it cultivates, that we can lay down ideas of right and wrong and allow self awareness to emerge.

Core Process Psychotherapy is a mindfulness-based psychotherapeautic practice that offers opportunity for clients to cultivate compassionate self enquiry.
By holding the intention of a safe relational field between therapist and client, we can support inner and outer transformation to arise.
